Update on the condition of Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico following an assassination attempt
According to the Slovakia government, Prime Minister Robert Fico has successfully undergone surgery after being shot at close range in an assassination attempt.
Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba provided this information to the BBC.
He mentioned that the surgery went smoothly, saying, "I believe he will pull through in the end."
Earlier reports had stated that Fico, aged 59, was in critical condition after the assassination attempt in Handlova.
At the scene of the crime, a suspect was apprehended.
Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estoka characterized the incident as a politically motivated assassination attempt.
The shooter fired five shots from close proximity, injuring Fico in the stomach and arm.
