Nigerian pastor convicted in UK for sexually abusing children and adults with wife’s support

Michael Oluronbi, a 60-year-old Cherubim and Seraphim pastor based in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom, was found guilty of 24 counts of child sexual abuse and rape on Tuesday, January 14th. He was convicted of 15 counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault. His wife, Juliana Oluronbi, aged 58, was also found guilty of three counts of aiding and abetting rape. Court papers revealed that five of the seven victims are siblings who were abused at their home address where the church conducted services. Six rice smugglers arrested by Nigerian navy, 1,439 bags of rice seized

The Nigerian navy has arrested six suspected rice smugglers and seized 1,439 bags of rice during five patrol operations in Akwa Ibom State. The suspects were apprehended at Unyenge, Effiat and Mendoro creeks. Two suspects were found with 803 bags of rice on January 13 while 185 bags were seized from fleeing suspects on January 2. Additionally, 286 bags of rice were confiscated from escaping suspects on December 26, 2019, and 165 bags were seized from four individuals arrested on December 23, 2019. Captain Peter Yilme, the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy's Forward Operating Base, Ibaka handed over the seized items and suspects to the Superintendent of Customs, Garuba Hassan, in line with the directives of the Chief of Naval Staff. The Federal Government has declared Amotekun illegal, just days after its inauguration by South-West Governors to combat insecurity in the region.    Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, stated on Tuesday, January 14 that Amotekun is not supported by any existing law in the country.
