Scientists Find Link Between Sexual Activity and Risk of Early Menopause in Women
According to a study involving nearly 3,000 women in the United States, those who engage in sexual activity at least once a week, including intercourse, oral sex, sexual touching, or self-stimulation, are 28% less likely to experience menopause at any given age compared to women who have sex less than once a month.
Megan Arnot, a PhD candidate at University College London (UCL) involved in the research, suggested that this finding points to a biological energy trade-off. The research supports the notion that human menopause initially evolved to reduce reproductive conflict between generations of females and to enable older women to enhance their fitness by investing in their grandchildren.
