Five aid workers kidnapped by Boko Haram, now free
Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists kidnapped the five aid workers on December 22 after ambushing their vehicle along Monguno and Damaturu. However, they have now been reportedly released.
Premium Times reported that the State Security Service facilitated the release of the five aid workers, consisting of two females and three males.
There is uncertainty regarding any ransom payment for their release, but they were brought to the DSS office in Maiduguri around 4 pm on January 15.
According to a source:
“It is a significant day for us here in Borno with the release of the five abductees. Two of them were employees of ALIMA, an international NGO, one from Solidarity International, one from the International Organization on Migration, and one from Red Cross.”
