On Monday, February 10, Patience Jonathan, the former First Lady, paid a visit to her successor, Aisha Buhari, at the state house in Abuja.    Aisha Buhari tweeted about the visit and mentioned that they discussed the increased involvement of women in politics and at lower levels of governance.   The First Lady disclosed that they also focused on girl child education, Patience Jonathan's project "women for change”, as well as her predecessor's experiences during her husband, Goodluck Jonathan's administration.     Aisha added that she listened to Patience Jonathan's perspectives on issues concerning women and children in society.

Man arrested after video of him slamming a little boy on the floor over allegations of stealing goes viral

The police in Ogwashi Ukwu, Delta state have arrested a middle-aged man after a video of him slamming a little boy on the floor over allegations of theft went viral. The incident occurred in Agidiese Quarters, Ogwashi Uku, Delta State. According to Harrison Gwamnishu, a Nigerian activist, the little boy and girl were accused of stealing N750 after they found the money on the floor while running an errand in the community. The man involved, identified as Lucky, was subsequently apprehended and is currently in police custody in Ogwashi Ukwu. Edo State Residence of APC Chieftain Hit by Bomb Explosion

Reports indicate that the home of Lawrence Okah, the factional secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, was struck by an explosive device. Okah is known for being loyal to the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.   According to sources, the explosion occurred around 12:30 am on Tuesday, February 11th.   The blast damaged a portion of the building in Benin, resulting in a hole in the ground. At approximately 8 am, anti-bomb police officers were present at Okah's residence.   Fortunately, there were no casualties from the explosion.   As of now, the state police command has not issued any official statement regarding this incident.

World Bank: Majority of Impoverished Nigerians Reside in the North

According to the World Bank, approximately 87% of Nigeria's impoverished population is concentrated in the northern region of the country.    The report from the Bretton Wood institution titled 'Advancing social protection in a dynamic Nigeria' revealed that the South-South region experienced the most significant decline in poverty between 2011 and 2016.    A section of the report stated that poverty levels in the northern regions, particularly the north-west zone, have been on the rise. In 2016, almost half of the poor population resided in the north-west, with the north accounting for 87% of the country's impoverished individuals. Shoprite Nigeria and Breast Cancer Awareness

The Big Pink Fight screenings occurred from 3-8 February 2020, providing women with clinical breast exams, ultrasound scans, and mammograms. Shoprite stores at Asaba Mall in Delta state, Onitsha Mall in Anambra state, Novare Gateway Mall in FCT Abuja, and Ado Bayero Mall in Kano state each hosted a screening station. Shoprite has been collaborating with RFCA since 2014 to raise awareness of breast cancer through free screenings. Some 5,000 women have benefited from these annual screenings.
