Recent Arrests Made in Akwa Ibom State for Human Trafficking

Authorities from the Akwa Ibom State command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have apprehended two suspects on charges of human trafficking. The arrested individuals, Okokon Essien Bassey and Ofonime Essien Bassey, were taken into custody on Tuesday, February 18. They had approached Emmanuel Monday and his pregnant wife with an offer to purchase their unborn baby for N500,000. Following a complaint filed by the couple, NAPTIP officials advised them to cooperate with the suspects. As a sign of their seriousness, the couple requested N10,000 from the suspects. Three medical doctors stand trial for allegedly causing death of a three months old baby in Abuja

Iran confirms its first two coronavirus cases

Iran has reported its first two cases of the coronavirus. The Iranian health ministry has revealed that initial tests on two suspected cases have returned positive. Kiyanoush Jahanpour, the country’s health ministry spokesperson, stated that they have found suspected cases of the new coronavirus in the last two days. The cases were identified in the city of Qom, and the patients have been isolated. Further tests are being conducted to confirm the issue. The virus, known as COVID-19, originated in Wuhan, China, and has infected over 70,000 people globally, resulting in more than 2,000 deaths.

Nigeria needs China's help in tackling insecurity – Gbajabiamila

The appeal for assistance in addressing insecurity from Chinese authorities was made by House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday February 18. Gbajabiamila requested for military support to combat the country's ongoing security challenges during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Mr Zhou Pingjian in Abuja. He stated, "Our biggest problem right now is the issue of insecurity, and we’ll be happy to get help now from wherever we can. Chibok Community Attacked by Boko Haram, With Many Reportedly Killed

On Tuesday night, February 18th, Boko Haram members attacked Korongilum Community in Chibok Local Government using a convoy of gun trucks and motorcycles, resulting in the killing of numerous residents.   Reports indicate that the heavily-armed insurgents arrived at the community around 6pm while villagers were returning from the farm, immediately initiating gunfire and causing casualties and injuries.   This assault occurs five years after the sect members abducted 276 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok. Presently, 112 of the girls remain in Boko Haram captivity, while others have been released.   As of now, the Nigerian Army has not commented on this latest attack.
