Sierra Leone reports its first case of coronavirus, making all West African countries affected
The first case of coronavirus in Sierra Leone was announced by the government on Tuesday, March 30. President Julius Maada Bio delivered the news in a nationwide address.
The confirmed case is a 37-year-old man who had traveled from France on March 16 and has been in isolation since then.
President Bio stated;
“When I did my first coronavirus press conference, I said that it was not a matter of if, but when. Well, ‘when’ has come."
With this announcement, Sierra Leone becomes the 48th African country to report a case, and the last in West Africa to do so. The government has implemented additional measures, including the indefinite closure of schools and other educational institutions throughout Sierra Leone starting today.
