UK’s New Attempt to Seize £117 Million Linked to Ex-Delta State Governor, James Ibori
The United Kingdom has initiated a fresh bid to confiscate a portion of the £117 million worth of properties stolen by former Delta state governor, James Ibori. In 2012, a UK court convicted Ibori, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, for fraud and money laundering, resulting in his imprisonment.
Upon completing his jail term in 2016, Ibori returned to Nigeria in January 2017. While in prison, British prosecutors attempted to seize all his assets identified as proceeds of crime, but faced unresolved legal issues, leading to unsuccessful confiscation attempts due to legal complications.
