Iraq suspends Reuters for three months over report on Coronavirus cases
The Reuters news agency's license has been suspended by the Iraqi government following the publication of a story alleging that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country was higher than the officially reported number.
The Iraqi media regulator has announced the revocation of Reuters' license for three months and imposed a fine of 25 million dinars (S$29,738) for violating the rules of media broadcasting.
The Communications and Media Commission (CMC) stated in a letter to Reuters that the action was taken "because this matter is taking place during current circumstances which have serious repercussions on societal health and safety".
