Emir of Rano dies after being hospitalized

The Emir of Rano has passed away after being hospitalized. The late Emir of Rano, Tafida Abubakar Illa, has passed away. Earlier reports indicated that he was referred to Nassarawa Specialist Hospital after being admitted at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital due to an undisclosed ailment. Secretary of Rano Emirate council, Sank Haruna, confirmed the Kano Monarch's death, stating he received the news at 5pm on Saturday, May 2. The 75-year-old emir, who is survived by two wives and 17 children, will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

Nigeria has expressed interest to be part of Coronavirus drug trials – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that Nigeria has expressed interest in participating in the global Coronavirus drug trials, and the process is set to commence soon. Fiona Braka, the officer in charge of WHO Nigeria, revealed that over 100 countries have joined the solidarity clinical trial, with more than 1,200 patients being randomized from the first five countries to assess the safety and efficacy of drug combinations. During a press conference on Friday, May 1, Braka also shared that 89 vaccines are being developed globally, including seven in clinical evaluation, and several therapeutics are in clinical trials. A Nigerian evangelist has died after he allegedly committed suicide in Malaysia. Evangelist Nwabueze Franklin Kelechi, of CRM (Charismatic Renewal Ministries), allegedly died after jumping from his apartment at Skyvilla, Serdang, Selangor in Malaysia. The incident happened on Thursday morning, April 30. Ernest Ugonna Nwabueze, the younger brother of the deceased, said he received a call at about 11:30am on April 30 from a friend who informed him that a man believed to be his brother jumped from a two storey building. Ernest rushed to the scene and found that it was indeed his brother. He then called the police and the body of the Evangelist was moved to the morgue.

Community Transmission in Kano Reaches 80% – Presidential Task Force

The head of the presidential task force on Coronavirus in Kano state, Nasiru Gwarzo, revealed that the rate of community transmission in the state has now reached 80 percent. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Gwarzo stated that about 80 percent of the samples collected from communities in the state tested positive for Coronavirus. The PTF official acknowledged the increased testing capacity in Kano state and emphasized the urgent need for intervention as the disease continues to spread across various areas. Gwarzo remarked, “When about 100 samples are delivered, there are five to ten that are positive (for coronavirus). But now, when 100 samples are returned, about 80 are coronavirus cases.” On May 1, Kano became the second worst-hit state with 311 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
