First Virtual Federal Executive Council Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday with President Buhari and Ministers

It is anticipated that the Federal Executive Council will convene its initial virtual session on Wednesday, May 13.   The FEC, which serves as the highest decision-making body of the Federal government, had its most recent meeting on March 18. US Judge grants FG's request to access bank records of former president Goodluck Jonathan, Diezani and others

The US Judge has granted the Nigerian government's request to access bank records of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Diezani, and others. The request for a subpoena on 10 US banks was made in connection to the alleged bribery scheme and subsequent $9.6 billion arbitral claim involving the British Virgin Island engineering firm, Process and Industrial Development (P&ID). The filings for the subpoena were made by Alexander Pencu, a partner of Meister Seelig & Fein LLP, attorneys for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice of Nigeria. Kano state government extends lockdown for an additional week as COVID-19 death toll reaches 32

President Buhari imposed a two-week total lockdown in Kano State to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Now, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced an extension of the lockdown by one more week to further control the spread of the virus, as stated by the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba.   Monday, May 11, saw an additional six COVID-19 related deaths in Kano, bringing the total death toll to 32.   Kano state currently has 666 confirmed COVID-19 cases, making it the state with the second-highest number of infected individuals after Lagos, which remains the epicenter of the pandemic in Nigeria with 1933 confirmed cases.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an interim forfeiture of N510million from an account alleged to belong to former commander of the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Uko Etim Ebong, to a 'company' Elioenai International College. This was contained in an ex-parte application filed and argued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, and granted by Justice Ahmed Mohammed on Monday May 11. EFCC repatriates $4,040 to a Brazilian victim of internet fraud

The Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has successfully recovered and remitted $4,040 to Debora Moreira, a Brazilian victim of internet fraud.   Moreira fell victim to a romance scam orchestrated by Emmanuel Tope, a convicted fraudster, resulting in the loss of the aforementioned sum.   Commencing the investigation in March 2019, the EFCC not only recovered the money but also prosecuted and secured the conviction of the fraudster.   A statement released by EFCC indicated that the proceeds of the crime were remitted into Moreira's account with Bank Itau S/A, Rua Americo Brasiliense, through the Central Bank of Nigeria.
