Four Nigerian stowaways have been sentenced to a total of seven years in jail by a UK court after they were found guilty of threatening the crew of the con/ro Grande Tema off the Thames Estuary in 2018.
The offenders, Samuel Jolumi, 27, Ishola Sunday, 28, Toheeb Popoola, 27, and Joberto McGee, 20, were sentenced after an 8-week trial. They broke free five days after being placed on quarantine following their discovery onboard the ship which was traveling from Lagos, Nigeria to Tilbury, UK.
The crewmembers locked themselves on the bridge for their safety, alerted the authorities, and filmed the men making threatening gestures, brandishing metal poles, and taking up fighting stances.
