US Soccer Cancels Winter Training Camp in Qatar Following Killing of Iranian Quds Force Commander
Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following the United States airstrike that killed Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Unit, Qasem Soleimani, the men's US national team has decided to cancel its winter training camp in Qatar.
US Soccer issued a brief statement, saying, "Due to the developing situation in the region, US Soccer has decided to postpone traveling to Qatar for the Men's National Team's scheduled January training camp." The organization expressed its intent to work with the Qatar Football Association to reschedule the training camp in the near future.
The team had planned to play closed-door games at Doha's Aspire Academy before returning to the United States to face Costa Rica in Carson, California on February 1.
