Femi Falana: AGF Malami told military court lacks power to try soldiers accused of killing policemen and freeing Wadume
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has refuted Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami's claim that 10 Nigerian soldiers, who allegedly killed three policemen to release a kidnap kingpin in Taraba State last year, must go through court martial before facing prosecution in a civil court.
According to Falana, the military court lacks jurisdiction to handle the case of terrorism, which the 10 soldiers are accused of committing against the policemen, a situation that drew widespread criticism against the Nigerian Army.
On August 6, 2019, 10 soldiers led by Captain Tijjani Balarabe allegedly killed policemen who were escorting the kidnap kingpin, Bala Hamisu, alias Wadume, from Ibi, Taraba State, to Abuja.
