Sea Pirate Captured, 4 Nigerian Navy Personnel Victims of Attack

Following a gun battle, a sea pirate responsible for the deaths of 4 Nigerian Navy personnel and the abduction of 3 foreigners in Agge, Bayelsa state, has been apprehended by special troops of the Nigerian Navy on Tuesday, January 7.    The exchange of fire occurred after the Nigerian Navy Forward Operations Base (FOB) Igbokoda received intelligence at approximately 11pm about an approaching speed boat suspected of carrying kidnappers and their victims.     The intelligence came following days of vigilance in an attempt to capture the culprits responsible for the deaths of 4 naval personnel stationed at NNS Delta, an operations base in Warri, Delta State.   Upon encountering the Special Forces on gunboats at the sea entrance, the suspects initiated a firefight. Mass Communication unbundled by NUC, no longer to be studied as a single course

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has declared that Mass Communication will no longer be offered as a single course of study in Nigerian universities. The commission's Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, made this announcement on behalf of the commission, stating that the new directive will come into effect from March 2020. Additionally, he revealed that a new curricula for communication studies will be provided to professors and communication practitioners in Nigeria. JAMB orders ABU to offer girl medicine after being accused of denying her the course because she is a Christian

The request from the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for the management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to grant admission in Medicine to Miss Shekwobyalo, came after a review meeting with various stakeholders. Despite her UTME score of 309, Miss Shekwobyalo accused the university of denying her admission in medicine because of her Christian faith. However, after the meeting, it was revealed that she was not the top candidate from Niger state. JAMB's registrar criticized ABU for pegging its Merit List at two candidates per state, stating that it was unfair.
