Boko Haram have more checkpoints in the North-East now – UN

The United Nations has raised concerns over the growing number of checkpoints being operated by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria's North-East region. According to UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon, the increased checkpoints have put aid workers at a higher risk of attacks. Expressing his concerns, Mr. Kallon emphasized the alarming rise in insecure working environments for humanitarian efforts, attributing the trend to the proliferation of vehicular checkpoints set up by non-state armed groups along main supply routes in Borno and Yobe states. He highlighted the heightened risks faced by civilians and aid workers due to these checkpoints, leading to increased incidents of killings and abductions. Mr. Kallon also revealed that the number of humanitarian workers ki...

Landlord refuses to rent room to a student because 'Nigerian cooking makes the house smell'

The refusal of a British landlord, Elina Vimbsone, to rent her double room apartment to a Gambian student, Ebrima Mboob, has sparked allegations of 'shocking racism'. Initially keen on offering the room, Elina changed her mind after learning that the student was from an African country, expressing concerns that 'Nigerian cooking makes the house smell'. In a shared screenshot of their chat, the landlord explicitly stated that her house is only for Europeans. Ebrima, a 24-year-old student studying Performing Arts at the University of the Arts London, recounted his shock at having his right to rent the apartment cancelled based on ethnicity.
