Presidency lists items exempted from increased VAT

The presidency has listed items exempted from the increased Value Added Tax (VAT) as outlined in the Finance Act 2019. According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo's media aide Laolu Akande, these items include locally produced sanitary pads, food additives, and table water. The Finance Act aims to ensure that the cost of living does not rise for Nigerians due to changes in the VAT. President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Act into law on January 13, 2020, along with the 2020 Appropriation Bill. The Imo Diaspora’s Call for Visa Bans Against CJN and Six Others

The Imo Diaspora Coalition for Justice and Democracy has petitioned President Donald Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi of the United States of America regarding the removal of Emeka Ihedioha as the Governor of Imo State by the Supreme Court.   The group is seeking a US visa ban against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, and six other Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria who presided over the matter.   According to the group, Justice Tanko, Justice Kudrat Kekere–Ekun, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Aminu Sanusi, Justice Amina Augie, and Justice Uwani Abba-Aji orchestrated a judicial coup by overturning the governorship mandate given to Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha. GOVERNORS of the six South-South states are, at the moment, unable to hold a meeting to take a joint decision on the setting up of a regional security outfit like the South West Security Network, ‘Amotekun’ launched, last week, by South-West Governors to enhance security in the region, Vanguard investigation has revealed. Sources told Vanguard that the major reason the governors could not meet is the raging feud between the Chairman, South-South Governors Forum and Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson and his Rivers State counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike.
