Police Arrest Wanted Internet Fraud Suspects in Ilorin

Authorities in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital, have apprehended six individuals who had been sought for their suspected participation in internet fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carried out the arrests.   The apprehension of Atanda Femi Benjamin, Atoyebi Samson, Olapade Oladimeji Solomon, Amoo Saheed, Lawal Opeyemi Mubarak, and Sadiku Muniru Dolapo took place in close proximity to the state House of Assembly.   The suspects were found in possession of three luxury vehicles, laptops, and mobile phones. They are expected to face legal proceedings in the near future.

VAT increase takes effect from February 1 – FG tells Nigerians

The Nigerian government has informed citizens that the Value Added Tax (VAT) will be increased from 5 to 7.5 percent starting from February 1, 2020. The announcement was made by the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed on January 16 during the inauguration of the Chairman and Board members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in Abuja. According to Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, the increase in VAT is part of the Finance Act signed into law by President Buhari and includes provisions to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in order to mitigate the impact of the VAT rate hike on companies.
