The Ban on Okada Services and Licensing in Lagos
The Lagos State Government has clarified that no one has been granted a license to operate commercial motorcycle services, known as Okada, following the ban imposed in six local governments and nine local council development areas of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, emphasized that the aim is to regulate commercial motorcyclists to limit their excesses.
“As far as I am concerned, the government has not registered any company to operate okada. The government's focus is on regulating these operators to control their excesses due to concerns about the high rate of fatalities and robberies on the roads.”
