Dismissal of Charges Against Ekweremadu in Assets Declaration Case Due to Lawyer’s Disappearance

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, had charges of non-declaration of assets struck out by a Federal High Court in Abuja.    Justice Binta Nyako dismissed the charges, which were initially brought by the defunct Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property. This decision came after the prosecuting counsel, Pius Akutah, informed the court that the former lawyer who had been handling the case for the panel had disappeared with the case file.   It is worth noting that the case and other suits previously handled by the SPIP were taken over by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation following a presidential directive which dissolved the panel in 2019.
