Proposed Legislation to Prohibit Generators and Impose 10-Year Prison Sentences for Sellers
Senator Bima Enagi introduced a bill on Wednesday, March 11, aiming to ban the importation of generators and impose jail terms for their sellers.
The senator representing Niger South Senatorial District proposed a minimum of ten years imprisonment for individuals who knowingly sell generator sets.
The bill, which passed its first reading in the senate chamber, includes the following provisions:
Any person who imports or knowingly sells generating sets will be guilty of an offense and liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than ten years.
"All persons are directed to cease the use of electricity generating sets which run on diesel/petrol/kerosene of all capacities immediately in the country.
