Mother and Son Convicted of Internet Scam by Lagos Court, Sentenced (See Photos)

Conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretense charges led to the conviction of Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri and his mother, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri, for defrauding victims of $82,570 (approximately N29.9 million).   Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, sentenced the duo to three years each in a correctional center.     The judge found them guilty on all counts, with their sentences running concurrently. Tragic Accident: 15 dead and 38 injured after a truck veers into a river in Ogun (see photos)

A Toyota Canter truck plunged into dried Omi river on the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road, resulting in the tragic death of at least 15 people and leaving 38 others with various injuries.   The Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Tuesday. A newborn baby girl, abandoned by an unidentified woman, was rescued by a good Samaritan named Fatima Adamu. The infant was found along Kuta Road, opposite the Central Mosque in Minna, the capital of Niger state.   The baby was taken to the Niger State Child Right Protection Agency in Minna on Tuesday, January 28.     According to Adamu, she was alerted by her neighbors after the baby, wrapped in a cloth, was discovered by a passerby.
