Court in Nigeria rules that Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege was never convicted in US

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a lawsuit seeking to remove Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege from office on the alleged grounds of a US conviction. Justice Othman Musa, presiding over the case, deemed the lawsuit a waste of the court's time as he stated that the Deputy Senate President was never convicted by any court of law nor was he subject to any criminal sentence. As a result, the plaintiff was ordered to pay N1 million to Senator Omo-Agege as damages for filing the lawsuit. Justice Musa also clarified that the only conviction that could disqualify a Nigerian from holding a political office for 10 years is one made by a Nigerian court.
