Tragic Passing of Another Borno Lawmaker

The late Umar Audi, who represented Bayo constituency at the Borno state house of assembly, has passed away.   According to The Cable, he was initially turned away at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital on Tuesday evening due to a reported lack of bed space.   However, after intervention from his family, Audi was admitted but unfortunately passed away shortly thereafter. An eyewitness shared,    “He died shortly after they admitted him. His sample has been sent to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control to certify if the death has anything to do with COVID-19."   His demise occurred just a week after the death of Bukar Wakil Lawan, the lawmaker representing Nganzai constituency in Borno, who succumbed to COVID-19.

Tragic News: Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Buratai, Mourns Mother’s Death in Borno

Sadly, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has reportedly lost his mother, Kakah Hajja, on Tuesday.   Reports from SaharaReporters suggest that Hajja passed away after a brief illness at her home in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.   An unnamed source confirmed her death, stating, "Yes I can confirm to you that she’s dead. She passed away this evening and will be buried tomorrow morning by 8am. May her soul rest in peace."   Neither the Nigerian Army nor Borno State government has officially confirmed the death of Kakah Hajia.   Buratai is currently in his native Borno State overseeing Nigeria Military’s efforts to combat Boko Haram jihadists.

COVID-19 cases in Nigeria reach 148 new instances

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria to 148.   The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) reports that 43 new cases were recorded in Lagos, 32 in Kano, 14 in Zamfara, 10 in FCT, 9 in Katsina, 7 in Taraba, 6 in Borno,  6 in Ogun, 5 in Oyo, 3 in Edo, 3 in Kaduna, 3 in Bauchi, 2 in Adamawa, 2 in Gombe, 1 in Plateau, 1 in Sokoto, and 1 in Kebbi.   Nigeria has now confirmed 2950 COVID-19 cases. Among these, 481 patients have been discharged while 98 patients have died.
