Police re-arraign Osun cleric who allegedly raped 16-year-old girl
The Osun cleric allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl and has been re-arraigned by the police. Habeebulah AbdulRahman, also known as Al-Edewy, was brought to court for the second time over the incident that occurred in 2019.
Despite the family of the victim opting for an out-of-court settlement, AbdulRahman was re-arraigned due to pressure from rights groups and the media. He was arrested in 2019 and claimed that the victim, a female student of his Islamic school, was his wife.
The suspect was granted bail on the condition of presenting a level 12 civil servant who owns a landed property, which he fulfilled. However, on Wednesday February 12, he was re-arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent assault against the teenager.
