Bayelsa state governor-elect, Duoye Diri, sworn-in (photos)

The governor-elect of Bayelsa state, Duoye Diri, has been inaugurated as the new governor of the state. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in the evening at the Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital, by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri, who administered the oaths of office and allegiance to Diri. Additionally, the deputy governor-elect, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, also took his oaths of office and allegiance during the ceremony. The inauguration of Diri and Ewhrudjakpo followed the Supreme Court's ruling to sack the former governor-elect, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo. First Coronavirus Case In Africa Recorded In Egypt

The Egyptian Health Ministry has confirmed its first case of the deadly coronavirus, making it the first in Africa. In a statement released on Friday, Febuary 14, the authorities revealed they have notified the World Health Organization and the patient has been placed in isolation in a hospital for treatment and monitoring. The nationality of the person was not given in the joint statement with the population ministry, which added that they had shown no “symptoms”. Egypt is believed to be the 28th country in the World to record a case of the killer virus and it is the first in Africa. Since the outbreak of the killer virus from Wuhan in China, more than 64,000 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed around the world and 1,363 people have died so far.

Police take down three armed robbery suspects in Anambra, as they capture two others (graphic photos)

Two days ago, the Anambra State Police Command responded to a distress call at Federal Housing Estates Fegge, Onitsha, where they intercepted a five-member robbery gang who had just attacked and robbed a businessman at Chisco Park in Upper Iweka. The officers, in conjunction with patrol team attached to Fegge Division, were able to apprehend three of the suspects and fatally wound them during an exchange of gunfire. The three were taken to the hospital for treatment but were declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician, according to SP Haruna Mohammed, the spokesperson of the Command. Thugs Rampage at the Home of Bayelsa Governor-Elect, Duoye Diri

Reports have emerged of a violent attack on the home of the governor-elect of Bayelsa state, Duoye Diri. The assailants, reportedly numbering about 50, initiated the attack at his residence on Imgbi Road, Amarata, Yenagoa, the state capital, causing extensive damage to the property.   The thugs vandalized several vehicles within the compound and inflicted damage on parts of the building.   Additional photos are available below
