Phuti Lekoloane Shares the Impact of Coming Out as South Africa’s First Openly Gay Football Player
Phuti Lekoloane, South Africa's pioneer openly gay football player, has revealed the challenges he encountered after publicly acknowledging his sexuality.
During an interview with Times Live, the 28-year-old footballer, who came out in 2015, cautioned against soccer players coming out due to the prevailing stereotypes associated with the LGBTQ+ community.
Lekoloane also recounted facing rejection from a team in the national first division solely because of his sexual orientation.
