The Supreme Court’s Sanctions on Olanikpekun and Afe Babalola: N30m Each for Accepting to File Application for Review of Bayelsa Election
Lawyers representing David Lyon and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the application for review of the apex court’s judgement on Bayelsa election have been fined by the Supreme Court. Justice Afe Babalola represented Mr Lyon while Wole Olanipekun represented the APC.
During the delivery of the judgement on the party's application, Justice Amina Augie, with tears in her eyes, expressed regret that "very senior" lawyers were responsible for filing the applications.
The Supreme court justices ruled that each of the lawyers must pay N10 million to each of the three respondents – the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Duoye Diri, and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhruojakpo, bringing the total amount to be paid to N60 million.
