The International Monetary Fund Provides Debt Relief to 25 ‘Poor Countries’
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted debt relief to over 25 poor member countries. The IMF, comprised of 189 countries, aims to foster global monetary cooperation, ensure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment, and reduce poverty worldwide.
Established in 1945, the IMF is governed by and accountable to its 189 member countries and provides assistance to countries facing financial crises.
Describing the Covid-19 pandemic as an unexpected shock to the financial situations of many countries, the Managing Director of the IMF, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, announced debt service relief for 25 poor countries to help them better tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
