The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has provided clarification regarding its plan to impose a stamp duty charge on tenancy. FIRS executive chairman, Muhammad Nami, addressed a webinar organized by OTISVIP, stating that the six percent stamp duty charge on tenancy announced earlier would only apply to tenancy and lease agreements exceeding 21 years. For tenancy and lease agreements less than seven years, a 0.78 percent stamp duty will be implemented, while agreements spanning seven to 21 years will carry a three percent charge.
