75-year-old Woman Arrested for Abusing 11-year-old House Help with Pepper

An elderly woman aged 75 has been taken into custody by the Ebonyi State Police Command for inflicting physical abuse on her 11-year-old house help by flogging and pouring pepper into the child's eyes and genitals.   Mrs. Comfort Obi was apprehended by police officers from Ekumenyi Police Station on Tuesday, April 14, following a report of the abuse by a neighbor, Mr. Osita Ezechukwu.   The victim, whose body bore scars from previous mistreatment, has been residing with the elderly woman due to her father's visual impairment which renders him unable to care for her and her four siblings. Tragic Suicide of a Teenage Girl in Jigawa

A distressing incident has occurred in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa, where a 15-year-old girl, identified as Ummi Garba, tragically took her own life by consuming rat poison.   The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident, stating that it took place on April 4th at Kofar Gabas quarters. Kano’s First COVID-19 Fatality

For the first time in the North West region of Nigeria, Kano state has reported a fatality due to the Coronavirus outbreak.   The Kano State Ministry of Health conveyed this information via a tweet, announcing the death of a COVID-19 patient at approximately 11:55pm on Wednesday, April 15.   The tweet stated;   “Wednesday, 15th April 2020. As at 11:55 pm, 1 death of #COVID19 has been recorded in Kano State."   Although the NCDC has confirmed 12 new cases in Kano, bringing the total to 16, the Kano State Ministry of Health has reported a total of 21 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in the state.

COVID-19 cases in Nigeria rise by 34

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria have increased by 34.   The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) reported that 18 cases were in Lagos, 12 in Kano, 2 in Katsina, 1 in Delta, and 1 in Niger state.   Nigeria now has a total of 407 confirmed cases of the virus, with 12 deaths.
