Coronavirus: Court blocks Illinois governor from extending stay-at-home order for another 30 days

The attempt by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to extend the state's stay-at-home order for an additional 30 days has been thwarted by a southern Illinois judge. This comes after a lawsuit was filed by Republican State Rep. Darren Bailey, who accused the governor of overstepping his authority and violating the civil rights of residents. In response to Bailey's lawsuit, Clay County Circuit Court Judge Michael McHaney issued a restraining order to temporarily block the governor’s latest executive order, stating that Pritzker’s extended stay-at-home order had "shredded the constitution." This ruling has the potential to pave the way for others in Illinois to join the lawsuit, or file their own. Governor Pritzker has expressed his intention to appeal the ruling, vowing to fight the legal bat...
