Edo State Governor Implements N70,000 Minimum Wage in Response to Fuel Subsidy Removal – Gov Obaseki
Addressing workers during the May Day celebration at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Governor Godwin Obaseki stated that the approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in Edo State was a direct response to the economic challenges brought about by the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Obaseki empathized with the workers, acknowledging the increased financial burdens they face due to factors such as escalating food prices and a volatile exchange rate.
He announced, "Two days ago, I announced that we have raised the minimum wage in Edo State from N40,000 monthly to N70,000 monthly, an increase of over 75 percent. This decision stems from our recognition of the hardships experienced by many of you on a daily basis."
