The decision by Chelsea to appoint midfielder Enzo Fernandez as captain just a month after the player was involved in a racism controversy has been heavily criticized by Arsenal legend, Ian Wright.
Wearing the captain’s armband in Chelsea’s recent Premier League match against Manchester City, Fernandez led Enzo Maresca’s team as Reece James was serving a suspension.
Expressing his dismay on the Wright’s House podcast, Wright exclaimed, “Chelsea, oh dear. Get yourselves together. What exactly are they thinking?
“There is absolutely no justification for granting that man [Fernandez] the captaincy. This is simply embarrassing.”
