Urging immediate action from the Federal Government to tackle the issues fueling nationwide protests in Nigeria, Adewumi Adeyemi, a member of the Osun State House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of addressing the pressing concerns affecting citizens.
In a statement released in Osogbo, the state capital, Adeyemi acknowledged the serious issues of hunger, inflation, insecurity, unemployment, and other challenges impacting the lives of many Nigerians.
Calling for direct and frequent communication with the citizens, along with displaying empathy and recognizing the protesters’ grievances, he advised President Bola Tinubu on effective ways to engage with the public.
Furthermore, he urged the President to clearly outline past and future actions, promote constructive dialogue, encourage unity and collaboration, and maintain visibility and accessibility to the people.
Highlighting the significance of the right to peacefully protest and voice grievances in a democratic society, Adeyemi stressed the importance of hearing and respecting these voices.
He expressed that the protests serve as a call for accountability and action from government officials at all levels.
Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, at the state level, the commitment to exploring and implementing local solutions to alleviate community challenges remains strong.
Adeyemi emphasized the critical nature of addressing issues such as hunger, price increases, security threats, and the removal of fuel subsidies.
Calling for measures to combat inflation, provide economic relief, enhance security strategies, and generate employment opportunities, he condemned any acts of violence, looting, or destruction of property.
Advocating for constructive dialogue and collaboration to find sustainable solutions, the lawmaker urged the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive actions to address the urgent concerns raised by the protesters.
