Osun Governor Adeleke Applauds EndBadGovernance Protest Suspension and Peaceful Demonstrations

Commending the decision to suspend the EndBadGovernance protest in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed his appreciation for the organizers and protesters for upholding peace and order throughout the six-day protest.

In response to the announcement by the protest organizers, the Coalition for Concerned Nigerian Citizens, Osun State, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, conveyed Adeleke’s commendation.

Adeleke stated, “The Osun State youths have admirably voiced their concerns and calls for good governance in Nigeria in a peaceful manner. They have upheld the peace and serenity that Osun State embodies. My gratitude to them for showcasing Osun as a model of ethical practices.”

He added, “As a state, our focus remains on implementing policies and initiatives that will benefit our citizens and society. We are supporting students with bursaries, allocating almost four billion naira to aid SMEs through cooperative bodies, constructing various roads and bridges, addressing outstanding salary and cooperative deduction debts, renovating healthcare and educational facilities, and finalizing the ongoing recruitment of teachers, soon launching the Imole Youth Corps.”

Moreover, Adeleke acknowledged the security agencies and their leaders for their exceptional collaboration, stating, “The coordinated, cohesive effort demonstrated by my security team sets a benchmark that Osun can share with other entities within the country.”

Pledging to personally bring forth the protesters’ demands to President Bola Tinubu for due consideration, Adeleke assured, “Just as pledged to the protesters, I will advocate for their demands during the next NEC meeting in Abuja. I commend them for halting the protest and affirm that our administration will sustain peaceful dialogue with all sectors of society to realize our vision for the growth and advancement of our beloved state.”

NewsNow disclosed that the nationwide EndBadGovernance protest, which commenced on Thursday, August 1, 2024, for a planned duration of 10 days until Saturday, August 10, 2024, was suspended indefinitely by the organizers on Tuesday.

The protests, predominantly centered in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, remained peaceful as security personnel were strategically positioned and accompanied demonstrators along their routes through key areas and streets in the capital.

The organizers clarified that the suspension after six days aimed to accommodate the upcoming 2024 Osun Osogbo festival, scheduled to conclude on Friday, August 9, 2024, recognizing that the stakeholders’ demands had been effectively conveyed to leaders at all levels during the protest.
