Ossah Road Construction: Abia govt Commences compensation of affected individuals

The commencement of compensation for affected individuals due to the Ossah Road construction has been announced by the Abia State Government (ABSG). This initiative is part of the government’s plan to expand the road into a 6-lane thoroughfare, requiring the demolition of around 130 structures. Chaka Chukwumerije, the state commissioner for land, confirmed this development during a town hall meeting with stakeholders. He emphasized that the compensation process aligns with the state’s commitment to providing restitution before property demolition. Additionally, Chukwumerije discussed the extensive engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure outreach to those affected. The commissioner also mentioned that the compensation, initially planned to be dispersed in stages, has been authorized for a one-time transfer into the claimants’ accounts by the state’s governor, Alex Otti. Chukwumerije stressed the government’s careful approach, stating that equipment mobilization for the construction will commence soon, reiterating the government’s dedication to Umuahia and overall state development. He concluded by expressing gratitude to citizens and claimants for their cooperation and highlighting that the state’s development is an ongoing process.
