Orji Uzor Kalu reacts as Supreme Court nullifies his 12-year conviction

The Supreme Court’s decision to nullify Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s 12-year jail term has elicited a response from the former Governor of Abia State. The apex court overturned Kalu’s conviction and ordered a fresh trial on Friday May 8th. In a statement following the decision, Kalu described his case as a tale of initial injustice that was ultimately corrected. He expressed gratitude to his family, colleagues, friends, supporters, and the people of Abia State for their unwavering confidence in him during the challenging period. He also thanked the Nigerian Correctional Service for their professionalism and humanity during his time in custody. Kalu commended the Justices of the Supreme Court for their commitment to the rule of law and expressed his confidence in Nigeria’s justice system. He also pledged to dedicate his time to ensuring justice for all Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a judicial system that guarantees justice for everyone. Kalu expressed his anticipation of rejoining his colleagues in the Senate soon.
