Opinions vary following court’s decision to sentence Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for fatally stabbing husband, Bilyaminu Bello

Nigerians have been giving their feedback on the ruling made by the FCT High Court in Maitama, which sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello in 2017.

Sanda was found guilty by the court for killing her husband during an altercation at their home in Abuja in November 2017.

While some have commended the court’s decision, others have deemed it as excessive. Some individuals have also viewed it as a cautionary tale for those in toxic relationships or marriages, urging them to exit before things escalate to violence. See reactions below.
