One year sees 159 cases of gender-based violence reported

Over the past year, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has managed a total of 159 cases related to gender-based violence within the state.

According to a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, and disclosed to the media on Thursday, the Gender Unit of the NSCDC operating under the leadership of Dr. Umar JG Mohammed has shown remarkable progress in the battle against Gender-Based Violence and safeguarding vulnerable individuals in the state.

The recorded incidents include 76 instances of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation; 58 cases of neglecting responsibility; 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 cases of threats to life; and 2 cases of missing children.

It was highlighted that many of these cases are currently being processed in court, and assurance was given to the public that all perpetrators will face legal prosecution based on the laws of the land.

Umar emphasized the firm stance of the corps against gender-based violence and conveyed the continuous dedication of the corps in partnering with key stakeholders to aggressively tackle this societal issue.

An appeal was made to the general public to assist the corps by providing valuable intelligence to aid in preventing crimes in the state.
