Ondo State to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage

The pledge to pay the national minimum wage of N70,000 to state civil servants has been confirmed by the Ondo State Government. Mr. Bayo Philip, the Head of Service, made this announcement at his office in Akure, the state capital.

President Bola Tinubu approved the minimum wage following discussions with labor unions in the country. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has consistently emphasized that his administration will adhere to the Federal Government’s approved minimum wage for workers.

The state government will also extend this initiative to retirees and employees in state-owned tertiary institutions to alleviate the current economic challenges. Mr. Philip stated, “Before the President signed the bill, the governor had already committed to enforcing the agreed minimum wage as soon as details are released. The state is fully prepared to implement this without delay.”

Regarding the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, Philip highlighted that there is no protest in Ondo State as the government is viewed as their own by the people. He emphasized, “There is no protest here. Everyone, including youths, market women, students, and public servants, is engaged in their responsibilities. The peaceful environment is a result of a governor who understands and is connected with the citizens. Our government is truly the people’s government, so protesting against ourselves is unnecessary,” reiterated the Head of Service.
