Olorunleke waxes lyrical over Al-Merrikh unveiling

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ojo Olurunleke’s joy knew no bounds after his unveiling by Al-Merrikh SC of Sudan on Tuesday, completing his transfer from Enyimba on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old, whose transfer to the Sudanese giants has been quite sensational, went philosophical in a statement on his Facebook page minutes after being presented to the press along with several pictures of the event, all depicting his joyous mood.

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. I’ve been clapping for others when it happened to them, and now God has rewarded me. I start another journey in your name, oh Lord. Let your mercy, grace, favour, and love abide with me all through. Amen. I am a light that must shine,” wrote the 27-year-old.

The transfer ended Olurunleke’s eleven-year spell in the Nigeria Premier Football League, which saw him man the goalposts for Giwa FC, Kano Pillars, Akwa United, Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, and Enyimba.

Moving to the more lucrative Sudani Premier League means the light-skinned shot-stopper has more money at his disposal, which he has started sharing with goalkeepers in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Retired goalkeeper and Shooting Stars goalkeeper trainer, Dosu John, disclosed on Tuesday that Olurunleke gave his colleagues the sum of N500,000 to share on the NPFL Goalkeepers WhatsApp platform.

In a statement on Facebook, Dosu expressed gratitude to the goalkeeper, who, according to him, has now donated a total of N1 million to the group in recent times.

”Ojo Olorunleke gave NPFL goalkeepers the sum of N500,000 to share on their WhatsApp platform. We want to use this opportunity to say thank you, Ojo. God bless you, and your pocket will never run dry. Thanks to Olorunleke for his kindness and love shown to us. God bless. He has given N1 million in total to the goalkeepers’ WhatsApp platform. Thanks, God bless you, for the kindness. Read the post that was put up shortly before Olurunleke’s unveiling by Al-Merrikh.
