Ohanaeze Disassociates from the Reported September 25 Burial Date for Iwuanyanwu

Regarding the burial date of the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has refuted claims circulating as false that the burial is set for September 25.

Reports from certain media outlets (excluding NewsNow) suggested that Ohanaeze had officially announced September 25 as the burial date for Iwuanyanwu.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the National Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo dismissed these reports, urging the public to disregard them.

The statement clarifies, “A report circulating on social media indicated that the respected Igbo leader and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (AHAEJIAGAMBA NDIGBO), who passed away last Thursday, would be laid to rest on September 25, 2024.”

“The claim, alleging that Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, announced this after an emergency National Executive Committee meeting in Enugu, is inaccurate as no such announcement was made,” the statement added.

“The factual scenario is that Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s NEC has called off the 2024 Igbo Day Celebrations scheduled for Owerri, Imo State, on September 29 in honor of our departed leader.”

“The only reference to September was during the opening of a condolence registry at Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s National Secretariat on Tuesday.”

“Discussions are underway with various stakeholders, including the Imo State Government, South East Governors, the Imeobi members, and others, to soon convene a central burial committee,” the statement continued.

“The public is advised to ignore any reports or statements claiming that a burial date for the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu, has been finalized,” it concludes.
