Ogun State Governor Appeals to Youth to Prioritize Dialogue over Protests

In a bid to address the challenges facing Nigeria, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has called on Nigerian youths to engage with the government through constructive dialogue rather than resorting to protests that could further destabilize the country.

During a meeting with members of youth organizations in the state, Abiodun emphasized the importance of seeking long-term solutions to issues, pointing out that protests, as seen during the EndSARS demonstrations in 2020, could escalate problems and lead to loss of lives and property.

Expressing his concerns about the calls for mass protests across the country, Abiodun questioned the effectiveness of protests as a means of engaging with the government and urged the youth to explore alternative ways of addressing their grievances.

Highlighting the uniqueness of Nigeria as a country where individuals can freely express themselves, Abiodun encouraged the youth to approach issues with a mindset of discussion and problem-solving rather than opting for drastic measures.

Quoting a Yoruba proverb, Abiodun emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue and collaboration in tackling challenges, rather than resorting to extreme actions that could have adverse consequences.

Recognizing the pivotal role of youths in nation-building, Abiodun urged the young population to channel their energy, creativity, and skills towards finding innovative solutions to the country’s current problems.

He also announced the restructuring of the Ministry of Youths and Sports to enhance the development of youth-focused initiatives and sports in the state, underscoring his commitment to youth empowerment and growth.

During the meeting, Kolawole Soremi, State Chairman of the National Youth Council, echoed the importance of continuous dialogue between the youth and the government as a means of resolving potential conflicts and fostering understanding.
