The Ogun State Government has blamed the fire outbreak that occurred at the Ogere Trailer Park in Ikenne Local Government Area of the state on negligence and lack of supervision by those who were entrusted to oversee the activities of users of the park.
NewsNow had reported that the park was engulfed by fire on Saturday night at about 11 pm.
The fire reportedly started from one of the shops before gutting a truck that was under repair at the park.
According to an eyewitness, the fire was put out by occupants of the park as firefighters were not available.
Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation Gbenga Dairo, said during an inspection tour, on Friday, that the incident would have been avoided if a routine inspection had been carried out to prevent unlawful business operations like selling diesel and situating welding and technician workshops close to where the articulated vehicles were parked.
The commissioner, represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Alhaji Olufodun Moibi, said that the government, however, would ensure that drastic and corrective measures are deployed to re-strategise operations within the park and environs.
He entrusted the park’s executive committee with making safety a priority, advising on the need to reallocate areas for artisans outside of the park and to constantly monitor the activities of drivers and other operators who may want to break the laws.
The Seriki of the Hausa community of the park, Alhaji Kabir Adamu, requested for a fire fighting station inside the premises and a rear exit route for the park.
