Training Program Launched by Ogun State Government to Prepare Herbalists for Global Market


Herbalists in Ogun State are undergoing training to enhance their competitiveness in the global traditional medicine market, announced the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, during a workshop in Abeokuta.

Dr. Lawal emphasized that the Board’s objective is to standardize and regulate the practice of alternative medicine, addressing challenges such as standardization. Collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) aims to boost indigenous medicine promotion and revenue generation for the state.

During a lecture, Prof. Alfred Jaiyesinmi from Olabisi Onabanjo University highlighted key aspects like hygiene, dosage, referral, and government registration essential for professional herbal practice.

He stressed the importance of government investment in herbal plantations due to the endangered status of medicinal plants.

Dr. Olu Adeola, a representative of the Commonwealth Traditional Healers Association, praised the state administration for its commitment to developing alternative medicine.
