Ogun FA Takes Strong Action Against Culprits Involved in Assaulting Referees

Following an assault on match officials at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, the Ogun Football Association has imposed a two-year ban on the individuals responsible.

In a statement released by FA Chairman Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, it was disclosed that the culprits had disguised themselves as fans of the club. They were identified as Jamiu Makinde, also known as JAMAK, and Ajani Opadiran, popularly known as “Gbeke”.

Describing the incident as barbaric, irresponsible, and uncalled for, the football association strongly condemned the behavior witnessed at the venue after the match between Gateway United Football Club and Ikorodu City ended in a goalless draw.

According to Majekodunmi, Opadiran recklessly assaulted the center referee, with Makinde also participating in the disgraceful act, tarnishing the integrity of the game.

Security personnel provided by the Ogun State Football Association had to intervene to control the situation and prevent further escalation.

After conducting investigations, it was revealed that “Gbeke” orchestrated the attack with the assistance of his accomplice, leading to the arrest of Opadiran, while Makinde remains at large.

As a consequence, both individuals have been banned from accessing sports venues in the state for the next two years. A detailed report will also be submitted to the police headquarters to highlight their disruptive behavior at sports events.

Majekodunmi cautioned football teams in the state against associating with the banned individuals for the duration of their suspension.
