Officials: Majority of Coronavirus Infections in Nigeria Concentrated in 20 Local Administrative Areas

According to the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF), 60 percent of the country’s Coronavirus cases have been identified in 20 local administrative areas.

The Chairman of PTF and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, made this revelation during the reception of a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth N10 million from Rotary District 9125.

Mustapha, represented by the Permanent Secretary (General Services Office), Olusegun Adekunle, disclosed the specific local administrative areas as follows: Mainland, Abuja Municipal, Mushin, Eti-Osa, Tarauni, Katsina, Alimosho, Maiduguri, Kosofe, Dutse, Ikeja, Nassarawa, Oshodi/Isolo, Apapa, Amuwo Odofin, Oredo, Bauchi, Lagos Island, Surulere, and Ado Odo/Ota.

He attributed the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the country to poor compliance with health guidelines.

Mustapha emphasized:

“We want to sensitize Nigerians on the risks associated with this trend. We urge Rotary to further extend the awareness. The risk management team is available to share strategies with the organization.

“The devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been evident, affecting both governance and the economy.

“We need to strategize for a new way of life. Many employees have been absent from work for the past four months, and the impact on the economy is clear.

“The fatality rate is quite high. We continue to remind Nigerians that these are not just statistics, but individuals who have tragically passed away.

“Certain groups and clubs have been making significant efforts to help us control this situation. The resources required to combat the virus are substantial.”
