Official: 16 Persons, Including a Police Officer and Two Soldiers, Killed in Kebbi Attack by Terrorists

The police officer who was killed has been identified as Inspector Garba Ibrahim.

The Kebbi State Police Command has reported that terrorists killed 16 people in an attack at Dankande village of Danko/Wasago Local Government Area of the state.

 

Initial reports from some online media sources had claimed that 50 individuals had lost their lives in the assault which took place on Friday, January 15. 

The command’s spokesman, DSP Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed the death toll to the News Agency of Nigeria, revealing that a police officer and two soldiers also fell victim to the attack.

 

“The incident occurred on Friday around 3:00 p.m,” he stated. 

 

Abubakar explained that the assailants, suspected to be bandits from Zamfara, stormed the community and wreaked havoc on both civilians and security personnel.

 

“Upon hearing about the invasion, the police patrol teams responded to the village and engaged the attackers in a gunfight, resulting in the loss of one of our police officers and two army personnel. Thirteen civilians were killed, and we also eliminated an unknown number of bandits in the exchange of fire.”

 

The police spokesperson noted that the bandits also set several houses on fire.

 

An investigation has been launched, and the public has been urged to provide relevant information to aid in the arrest of the bandits.

 

The spokesperson also mentioned that the police, in collaboration with the public, would devise strategies to prevent similar attacks from occurring in the future.

 

The fallen police officer, Inspector Garba Ibrahim, has since been identified.
