Officers Recognized for Declining N1.5m Bribe by Army

The Military Special Task Force responsible for maintaining peace in Plateau State has commended eight Operation Safe Haven personnel for turning down a N1.5m bribe offered by suspected cattle rustlers in the state.

A statement released by the task force’s spokesperson, Capt. Oya James, revealed that the personnel stationed at OPSH Sector 4 intercepted 30 rustled cows owned by Shehu Umar at the Bisichi checkpoint in Barkin Ladi local government area.

The cattle, which were stolen in Mangu, were being transported to an undisclosed location when the task force troops stopped and searched the vehicle, resulting in their interception.

Upon the interception, the individuals in the vehicle, Anas Usman (20 years old) and Gyang Cholly (42 years old), attempted to bribe the troops for a security pass for the stolen cattle, which was promptly declined by the personnel. The suspects were subsequently arrested along with the bribe money.

In the statement, Maj. Gen. Abubakar, the commander of Operation Safe Haven, recognized the exemplary actions of the personnel and presented them with a cash reward. He encouraged all security personnel to uphold high standards of conduct and courage in the execution of their duties.

“During the reward presentation, Brig. Gen. M.O. Agi, the Chief of Staff OPSH, represented Maj. Gen. Abubakar and urged the personnel to follow the outstanding example set by the eight individuals,” the statement added.
